COPD is a progressive disease, which means that it gets worse over time. Because there is no cure for COPD, all the currently available treatments concentrate on slowing the disease progression, controlling the symptoms and reducing complications.
It is very important that you have a good relationship with your doctor. Do not be afraid to make an appointment with your doctor to talk about any changes in your condition, and speak up if you are concerned about your treatments or unexpected symptoms.
This section explains what you can do to help manage your condition, and what kind of treatment you are likely to receive.
BreathWorks™ is The Lung Association's national COPD program that offers practical information and support for people with COPD and for their families and caregivers. If you have COPD or if you know someone who has it – BreathWorks™ can help.
