New Asthma Society of Canada Online CME Initiative

The Asthma Society of Canada has launched its newest educational program with the goal of supporting all lung health professionals. "Advancing In Lung Health" is an on-line, interactive educational portal dedicated to improving patient outcomes by helping healthcare professionals promote lung health. Our latest program, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), developed by Dr. Charles Chan and Dr. Mark Greenwald, is now available at www.AdvancingIn.com. The program's learning objectives include:

  • Evaluate the significance of preventing exacerbations in COPD and its’ impact on the progression of COPD and patient quality of life (QOL)
  • Increase the awareness of the benefits of early intervention in the course of COPD
  • Review the latest evidence in COPD management, including the new Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) recommendations
  • Identify interventions appropriate for various stages of COPD using the Canadian Thoracic Society (CTS) criteria

With more than 27,000 physicians registered AdvancingIn is a leading provider for CHE. AdvancingIn offers health care professionals a tool to learn around their schedule, at their own pace and at no cost. AdvancingIn's interactive multimedia resources allow physicians to have access to learning 24/7, through multimedia formats including video, audio and text.

Our existing E-CME education modules are COPD, Asthma, and School-aged Asthma.

Online CME: According to ACCME, online CME represented 12.5% of all CME in 2003 and is growing at the rate of 700% per year compared while traditional CME grew only by 38%. A recent survey of 742 physicians and pharmacists in Canada ranked online CME as the 7th most referred-to source of information and the 6th most credible (tied with referring to a colleague).

We look forward to your feedback. If you have any questions, please contact us.
