2010 Blog Entry 2: July 2010
"Do, or do not. There is no try"
My sister, an aspiring runner, asked me recently how I continue to motivate myself; how do I get out there, every day, rain, snow, sun - whatever - and train?.

2011 - Another (New) Beginning
Hey gang!
Welcome back to my Blog and all that goes with it! I have been busy training and trying to stay healthy this year - and while my old, aging, run-down [pun intended!] body continues to struggle to keep fit and fast, I am happy to report I am back on the boards (cool running term for "track") and the road. I have several races under my belt so far this year - including being happy to repeat as the 2011 Ontario Masters Indoor Champion in the 3000m. Very cool!
And, just as cool - we at the ASC have some awesome news and developments to report:
First, we will be continuing with TEAM ASTHMA, with the Toronto Waterfront Marathon -5km/Half and Marathon - on October 16, 2011 as our fund-raising/race goal.
To that end, I hope all of you received the ASC/NAPA email in April setting out the plans we have - raising both funds, awareness and the fun quotient is a perfect way to get you off the couch! And to help you do just that, I am pleased to be able to help by leading TEAM ASTHMA in a newly revised 5 week training Training Program.
Whether you are a complete beginner, a novice or intermediate runner or walker, or even an advanced endurance athlete, train with us this year to take part in the Scotiabank race - you pick your event [5km/Half Marathon (or go BIG!!) the full Marathon]!! And what will be in it for you?
Prove that people with asthma can train, compete and be physically active
Inspire others who are working to control their asthma
Reunite with friends, and make new friends through your asthma connection
Raise money and support the work of the Asthma Society of Canada
Seriously, what is not to love - you get fit, raise money, and get to run wild and fast; win/win for everyone! As Julius Caesar proclaimed: "Let the games begin!!"
And don't forget to come out and take part in Seja's Run at the Toronto French School on May 14:
The run/walk event is open to all and is FREE! Just raise $25 in donations and bob's your uncle - you get to rip it up in a great event!
And we have it on good authority it is going to be warm, sunny and fast on May 14!! So mark it on your calendar to be there - or be square.
So that is all for now - stay tuned for more dets on the TEAM ASTHMA training program and I will see you at Seja's Run next week.
Run Fast,
John
ps - we have had a great Spring of running at the elite level - check out the video below: a new WORLD RECORD i the marathon - 2:03:02, set at the Boston Marathon in April. I am speechless as to how fast that is - be awed!
